Exhaust Experiment

Performance

Installation

A public performance work that acts as an experimentation in quantifying exhaust emission visually.
A ten foot extension was fashioned to an exhaust pipe. It housed a white cotton sock filter.
Various, specific and incremental distances were driven, and the filters collected and replaced to gather visual evidence of expelled pollutants.
A hypothesis of a darkening value of the filters could take place was proven wrong and the experiment failed due to the efficiency of modern automotive combustion and filtration systems on the particular vehicle used in this project.
There is a hope of resurrecting this experiment with a vehicle that was built before modern emission standards.
